My role
I redesigned Qiao’s user interface and experience, focusing on improving usability, simplifying navigation, and creating a more intuitive, student-friendly design. I refined the visual identity and interface elements to make the app feel more welcoming, accessible, and easier to use for international students relocating to China.
Research & Analysis
I analyzed existing relocation apps, compared their features, and mapped the student journey from pre-arrival planning to settling in China. I focused on key challenges such as finding accommodation, overcoming language barriers, and accessing local services. These insights helped identify gaps in existing solutions and define Qiao’s core features.
Visual direction
Moving to another country comes with a lot of small uncertainties. For Qiao, I wanted the interface to feel like a friendly companion rather than another complicated app to figure out.
The visual identity was built around soft forms, warm interactions, and a playful green panda character that gives the product a recognizable personality. Instead of making the interface feel overly technical, I used approachable visuals and a calm layout to make information easier to understand and explore.
The UI keeps things simple and spacious, giving each action a clear place while making the experience feel welcoming from the first interaction. The result is a product that combines practicality with personality—designed to help international students feel a little more comfortable in an unfamiliar environment.
